Hollywood loves a comeback story, and 2026 has already delivered several of them. From major film stars returning to roles fans have waited years to see again to musicians stepping back onto the stage, this year has brought some of the industry’s most recognizable names back into the spotlight.
Some of these returns mark a genuine comeback after years away, while others are significant because they reunite stars with characters or projects that helped define their careers. Either way, the result has been a year filled with some of Hollywood’s most anticipated appearances.
Here are some of the biggest celebrity returns of 2026.
Few returns in 2026 have carried the same weight as Céline Dion’s return to live performance. The singer is back on stage in Paris for a major concert residency, marking her first full concert run in six years.
Dion’s return has been one of the year’s biggest entertainment events, with fans travelling from around the world to see her perform again. The Paris residency consists of 26 concerts running from September 2026 through May 2027, making this more than a one-off appearance.
Her return also reflects the lasting connection audiences have with one of pop music’s most recognizable voices. After years away from regular live performance, seeing Dion back on stage has become one of the defining celebrity moments of 2026.
Sandra Bullock’s return to the big screen has been one of the year’s most anticipated. The actress has reunited with Nicole Kidman for Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after the original film.
Bullock reprises her role as Sally Owens, while Kidman returns as her sister Gillian. The sequel brings the two actresses back into the world of the Owens family and introduces a new generation of characters, including Joey King and Maisie Williams.
The significance of Bullock’s return goes beyond nostalgia. Practical Magic 2 marks her acting return after a four-year hiatus, making the project an important new chapter for one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Nicole Kidman’s return in Practical Magic 2 is equally notable, as she steps back into one of her most recognisable roles as Gillian Owens nearly 30 years after the original film.
Revisiting the character gives Kidman the chance to bring a familiar part of her career back to the screen while introducing Gillian to a new chapter of the story.
Her involvement also goes beyond acting. Kidman serves as a producer on the sequel alongside Sandra Bullock and Denise Di Novi, giving her a hand in shaping the film as well as reprising one of her best-known characters. This makes her return particularly significant, combining nostalgia with a more active creative role behind the scenes.
Cameron Diaz’s return to acting has continued to attract attention in 2026. After stepping away from the screen for several years, Diaz returned to film with Outcome, starring alongside Keanu Reeves, Jonah Hill and Matt Bomer.
The film marked another step in Diaz’s comeback after her extended break from the screen. What makes her return particularly interesting is that she has not simply revisited a nostalgic project, but has continued to take on new film roles.
For audiences who remember Diaz from films such as There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels and The Holiday, her return represents the latest chapter in one of Hollywood’s most recognizable careers. Outcome was released in April 2026.
Johnny Depp is also making a major return to the big screen in 2026 with Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. Depp stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in the new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic Christmas story.
The film represents a significant return to a prominent leading role for Depp, whose screen presence has been more limited in recent years. Rather than returning as one of his established characters, he is taking on a completely new interpretation of one of literature’s most recognizable figures.
With a major Christmas release planned for November, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol offers Depp an opportunity to begin a new phase of his film career with a character audiences already know.
Brendan Fraser’s career resurgence has continued into 2026. After rebuilding his presence in major Hollywood productions in recent years, the Oscar-winning actor has several high-profile projects keeping him firmly in the spotlight.
Among them is Pressure, in which Fraser appears alongside Andrew Scott. The film comes during an important period in his career, following the acclaimed performances that helped re-establish his profile and eventually led to his Oscar win.
Fraser’s career resurgence is different from a traditional comeback because it has developed over several years rather than being tied to a single project. While his resurgence began before 2026, the year represents another significant chapter, with his continued involvement in major productions showing that his renewed place in Hollywood has become firmly established.
Pamela Anderson’s recent career resurgence has continued into 2026. The actress has built on the renewed attention surrounding her recent film work, with her appearance at the Venice Film Festival while promoting Place to Be marking another high-profile moment in a career phase that began well before this year.
In recent years, Anderson has increasingly shifted the focus from her earlier celebrity image toward more substantial acting roles. Her work in 2026 adds to that progression, with her continued presence at major film festivals and events reflecting how much her professional image has evolved.
Jessica Lange is making one of the most anticipated returns of 2026, coming back to American Horror Story for its 13th season.
Her return is particularly significant because she has not been a regular on the series since Freak Show in 2014, although she later appeared in Apocalypse. With American Horror Story: 13 bringing back several familiar faces and allowing Lange to reprise all four of her previous characters, her return gives the new season a strong connection to the show’s earlier years while offering longtime fans a chance to see some of her most memorable roles again.
Hollywood’s biggest returns in 2026 show that familiar stars still have a strong place in the spotlight. From Céline Dion returning to the stage to Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman revisiting one of their most beloved films, these returns have given audiences plenty of reasons to celebrate seeing them back in the spotlight.
What makes these comebacks particularly interesting is that many of the stars are not simply repeating what they have done before. Some are returning to iconic roles, while others are taking on new characters and projects that reflect a different stage of their careers. That mix of nostalgia and fresh opportunities has made 2026 an especially interesting year for celebrity returns.
